TARTARIA is part of the "Primordial Series" addressing...'existence from the beginning'. The background scrawlings in this painting are images from the Tartarian Tablets discovered in the village of Tartaria, Romania, and are believed to be the earliest known form of writing. Other symbols in this piece are from the African Nsibidi language and the dominant shapes are Runes. Writing is the physical manifestation of a spoken language and allows the expression of ideas to be recorded and shared with other cultures. Writing has served to communicate the thoughts and feelings of the individual and of the collective experience of mankind.
